Phlebodium aureum Blue star fern
The Blue Star Fern (Phlebodium aureum) is a true gem among fern species, appreciated by plant enthusiasts for its unique blue-green foliage. This plant originates from tropical and subtropical regions of South and Central America, Africa, and the Caribbean, where it grows as an epiphyte on other plants or trees rather than in soil. This gives it a distinctive appearance, often forming clumps or mats on tree bark, and making it an eye-catching addition to any indoor garden.
Ferns are particularly suited to interior styles that are natural, organic or bohemian in feel. Their delicate fronds and varied textures can help to soften the hard edges of a room, creating a more relaxed and inviting atmosphere. They also work well in spaces with a lot of natural light, such as conservatories or sunrooms, where their foliage can really shine.
Watering:
The Blue Star Fern likes to have consistently moist soil, but it should never be allowed to become waterlogged. Overwatering can cause root rot and other fungal diseases. Therefore, it is important to water the plant thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain out of the bottom of the pot.
Lighting:
Somewhere well lit but not direct sunlight, can tolerate shadier areas.
The Blue Star Fern prefers a humid environment, so it benefits from occasional misting. You can mist the leaves with water or place a tray of water near the plant to increase humidity levels.
